What a magical thing it is to write a poem. This afternoon we made little books and wrote poems in them. These are so sweet - they'll bring a smile to your face and remind you of childhood.

Slices of watermelon greeted the kids as they came in on Day 4. Not for eating though!
We started a mixed media painting on pieces of masonite. Decorative paper was glued on the masonite and wrapped on the back. Next came a paper cut table of their own choice - each one cutout a shape and the table legs and glued them on the masonite.
Then we painted the watermelon slice on a plate with thick globs of paint.
Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures that day.... my brain was probably fried by then. My mom is visiting and she joined the kids for this painting project. Her painting is below -

Now they could eat their watermelon slice. Yeah!!!
After lunch it was time to do something quite different. I decided to have quiet time and do a writing exercise. We wrote a story - "realistic fiction" - as the kids called it.
Here is my niece Jahnvi's (age 8) story.
THE DAY I WENT ON MY FIRST BOAT RIDE WITH MY FAMILY!!!
One day my parennts were thinking about going on a boat ride,so we did. We were thinking about where to go for our boat ride. We had our own private boat. Then we decided to take a ride to mammoth.So....... thats when we started our vacation. In the boat we had lots of good food and there were many pleasant days with nice breezes. For a few hours my sister and I got bored. But we were having the best time of our lives!!!!!!!!!
When we reached, it was snowing. Then we went to our hotel and the lady said we had the biggest room in the whole entire hotel. When we got into our room, my sister and I screamed. We were so happy, we thanked our mom and dad. When we slept that night, I woke up in the middle of the night and looked outside, it was so beautiful. The next morning my sister and I went outside in the snow. We did snowballs,made an igloo,snowmans,and snowangels. Then our parents came out and we had snowballs so it was my sister and I verces my parents.Days went by pretty fast.On our way back we did the same as going. Finally we reached home. That was the best boat trip ever.
