For a sweet 7 year old's birthday party - we did a small art project this morning - making felt flower garlands. These are colorful and light and can be hung in across a doorway or just on the wall. Felt is easy to work with and everyone participated - making this a very fun and successful party!

Our saturday morning class was full today - full of eager, creative, fun kids.
We made cards and envelopes using a variety of techniques - popups, ink and a big brush, recycled brown paper and magazine collage, patterned paper, cutting out shapes from an accordion.

My nieces came and we actually had time to paint. Yeah! Check these 2 paintings for two very different subject matter and styles. One a story within a painting and the other a story of color all by itself.

These lovely paintings were done by very young girls (ages 8-12). Aren't they precious? The drawings, the colors, and the composition works very well and they are full of light. And they are all so different too and very painterly - the brush strokes and the atmosphere well captured. I am so proud of them :)
Each one of the paintings is 11"x14" and done with acrylic paints on a canvas pad

Five little (ages 5-7) kids drew a puppy and painted it using acrylic paints. They were pretty excited to be using brushes and canvases and insisted on mixing their own colors. Checkout the details of the toys, balls, bones, rugs, etc.

That's the word to describe these drawings! Such nice lines, such expressions. We learnt how to draw the various parts (three parts of an arm, for example) of bodies. How to show knees and elbows. Its always amazing for me to see how children can add their own flavors to drawings.

Children can be incredible when it comes to art - they have a super self-confidence, novel ideas, and tons of energy. An empty sheet of paper or canvas does not faze them like it does many adults. They can make a mark quickly and change it as the drawing moves forward. They can have a vision of what they want their piece to look like and self-correct with ingenuity while keeping their piece fresh and original.
I am happy to be closely related to two lovely talented girls. Devanshi is 12 and Jahnvi is 7 - together they can crank out drawings and paintings and leave you in the dust.
My nieces came and stayed and when they were not reading or studying for tests, they were in the studio and art was popping out of our ears. Paintings, sculpture, sewing, paper-cutting..... I am such a proud aunt :)
